If mom wants to relax by the beach, have a retail therapy kind of day and maybe go spend some time at a theme park, then Miami is the best city for a memorable vacation. Here, you can treat yourselves to something nice at the Bal Harbour Shops, or maybe venture to the endless Aventura Mall.

South Beach has white sand, turquoise water and lots of fun activities. You can rent a jet ski by the hour, hit one of the beach bars at the swanky hotels surrounding the area and obviously work on your tan.

Plus, Disney World and Universal Studios are in neighboring Orlando, so it’s completely possible to take a day trip to a theme park and have some fun on the rides. Mom and you will be busy in Miami, but in a relaxing way.

Maybe mom is a culture vulture and wants to see one of the most iconic cities in the world. If so, then look no further than New York City. While it may be on the expensive side, there are ways to enjoy the Big Apple that will not burn a hole in your pocket. Museums like the MoMA are free on Friday evenings, and a stroll around Central Park will not cost you anything.

If mom and you enjoy the theater, then New York City will definitely deliver. There are Broadway and Off-Broadway shows catered to all tastes. Be sure to check out the play selection at Lincoln Center.

Antoni Gaudi is a household name in Barcelona, as he designed the most celebrated buildings in the city. His Sagrada Familia is a funky cathedral worth visiting and Parc Guell is also impressive.

Perhaps mom is looking for a zen kind of holiday. If so, why not look for a wellness retreat where you can unwind together? Within the U.S., you can look into BlackBerry Farm in Tennessee. Here, you can find two pools and the beautiful spa, The Wellhouse, which offers various treatments, yoga classes and a gym. The hotel activities sound soul-cleansing: Deep Healing Forest Yoga and Aromatherapy 101.

If you want to be a bit more adventurous, you can venture abroad for a wellness retreat. Mom might like the Farm at San Benito in the Philippines, where you will find nutrition classes, exercise options and beauty programs. The setting in this hotel is luxurious, as you will stay in a villa surrounded by manicured gardens.

If mom and you want to go to several places and not worry about food or entertainment at night, then a cruise vacation will be the best choice. On a cruise, most of the planning will be done for you, and many of them offer all-inclusive deals. This means you’ll have a very good estimate of how much you’re spending before boarding.

There are several routes you can take with different companies, and you can choose whether you want a cruise with many stops or one that focuses on one destination. Definitely make sure you discuss if you’re feeling an Alaska vibe or more of a Mediterranean medley.
